Not Sending Their Best Is the New Default Configuration

"Not sending their best" has escaped politics and moved into everything else: products, meetings, dashboards, release notes, apologies. We call it velocity when corners are cut quickly enough and call it strategy when nobody wants to own the downgrade.

The pattern is always the same. First, standards are announced with ceremony. Then deadlines tighten, incentives skew, and suddenly the pass/fail gate becomes a suggestion box. By the time the consequences arrive, the people who warned about quality are reclassified as "not collaborative."

This is why institutions decay in public while everyone insists they are improving in private. If your process rewards throughput over judgment, you don't get excellence at scale—you get plausible deniability at scale.
